Centerfielder Oneil Cruz was placed on the seven-day concussion list yesterday after having left Tuesday’s game following a collision with Jack Suwinski. Ronny Simon was recalled from Indianapolis and was 2-for-5 hitting out of the leadoff spot.
The Pirates also confirmed that catcher Endy Rodriguez is out for the season after having ulnar nerve transposition surgery on his right elbow on Tuesday. That’s the same elbow on which Rodriguez had Tommy John surgery two years ago. No additional damage was found related to that surgery. Rodriguez should be ready to go by spring training next year.
