The Steelers had a day off to settle into Pittsburgh yesterday after closing the door on St. Vincent College. Today, they will hold a joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team they will play on Saturday in their second preseason game.
The Buccaneers arrived in Pittsburgh on Tuesday and practiced yesterday at Gesling Stadium at Carnegie Mellon University. The joint practice with the Steelers today is at Acrisure Stadium.
Former Steelers receivers coach Lionel Taylor has passed away at age 89. He died on August 6th. Taylor entered the NFL as a linebacker for the Bears in 1959, but made his name as a wide receiver for the Broncos in the old AFL from 1960 to 1966. He was the first receiver in either AFL or NFL history to record at least 100 receptions in a season. He retired in 1968.
Taylor won two Super Bowl rings as a member of Chuck Noll’s staff, when his receiving corps included Hall of Famers Lynn Swann and John Stallworth, whom he joked, “didn’t need a lot of coaching.”
