A proposed budget from the PA Senate that would have sent some money to schools, hospitals, counties and non-profit agencies was voted down by the House Appropriations committee.
The vote was along party lines, with all 22 Democrat members of the committee voting against it and 15 Republicans voting in favor of it. The bill proposed by the Senate would have kept funding flat for now and start to distribute funds while work continued on the budget. This version did not include any of the spending increases from Governor Josh Shapiro’s budget or the state House spending plan.
Republican chair of the committee Jim Struzzi said that this was a missed opportunity.
He added that because of the vote against the budget, House Democrats have limited the options available to them to end the budget impasse, which is now at six weeks.
