Both the PA House and Senate are on extended break after budget negotiations this week.
According to legislative calendars, unless a special session is called for, the PA Senate is not due back for session until September 8th. The State House will reconvene for a non-voting session on September 22nd. Earlier this week, the PA Senate presented a budget that was meant to get money out to counties, schools and other entities while legislators continued to work on the full state spending plan. That plan was rejected by Democrat members of the House Appropriations Committee and will not see a full vote in the house. Similarily, a transportation funding plan from the Senate that would have sent close to $300 million to transit agencies was also voted down.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said the last few days were filled with “really good, honest dialogue” on the budget, and said that progress was made.
