The Steelers practiced yesterday at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, with a Thursday night game at Carolina fast approaching.
Even though coach Mike Tomlin termed the chest injury suffered on Saturday by long snapper Christian Kuntz “short term”, the Steelers have signed veteran two-time Pro Bowl long snapper Jake McQuaide. He has played for the Rams, Cowboys, Lions, and last year for the Vikings and Dolphins.
The team also signed rookie cornerback Kam Alexander and second-year offensive tackle Julian Pearl. They released veteran defensive lineman Breidan Fehoko, wide receiver Roc Taylor, and linebacker Devin Harper.
Tomlin says Thursday night’s game at Carolina is a last chance for players to stand out in game action.
The coach says he has learned a lot about his rookies since the draft process began.
With Calvin Austin III still missing with an abdominal injury and Ben Skowronek out with a toe injury, multiple sources report the Steelers will host free agent veteran wideout Gabe Davis today. He also visited the team in June but hasn’t signed anywhere yet. Davis played ten games with Jacksonville last season before suffering a meniscus injury and missing the rest of the season.
