It’s probably the most-anticipated game of the entire season for the Altoona Curve. Baseball’s number-one ranked prospect, Konnor Griffin, makes his Double-A debut as the Curve take on the Reading Phils. Last year’s ninth overall draft pick, Griffin started the season in Low-A Bradenton and has played 51 games at High-A Greensboro, hitting a combined .332 with 16 home runs, 72 RBIs, 59 stolen bases, and only seven errors in 69 games at shortstop.
Griffin is only the third Pirates’ prospect to play for Altoona before hie twentieth birthday. The other two were Andrew McCutchen and Jose Tabata, and Griffin will be younger than they were when he makes his first appearance in a Curve uniform.
The Curve lead Richmond by a game-and-a-half with 24 games remaining in the second half of the Eastern League season.
