ONE HURT IN CRASH INVOLVING HORSE AND BUGGY IN SOUTH MAHONING TOWNSHIP

One person was injured in a crash involving a car and a horse and buggy in South Mahoning Township on Monday.

State police from the Punxsutawney Barracks were sent to Pearce Road near Rossmoyne Road around 6:58 PM on August 18th.  Troopers say a car driven by 67-year-old Randall Rankin of Sagamore was going South on Pearce Road and crossed the center line, striking a horse and buggy driven by a 16-year-old Smicksburg boy.  The boy was ejected from his vehicle and the buggy was detached from the horse.

The young victim went to Punxsutawney Area Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries.

Raising Property Taxes

For a variety of reasons, many school districts are raising property taxes this year.  What’s to blame?

Inflation overall. Everything is more expensive, including running schools.
The state does not provide enough funds to local districts, especially those with low property values.
Charter school funding. I am already paying for my local district, but now I am paying for charter schools, too.
The cost of personnel. Wages, health insurance, pensions, and more are all going up.
School districts are not spending their resources wisely.
The whole school funding system in Pennsylvania is wrong. The system is broken.
