IUP has announced that their accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education was reaffirmed.
Institutions are evaluated for accreditation based on sets of standards and a multi-year, in-depth self-review of the university. That’s followed by a visit from the Middle States team The recognition says that IUP upholds the commission’s standards for academic programs, faculty and staff expertise, campus services, finances, governance and other areas. It’s a required step so that students can receive federal grants and student loans, can facilitate student credit transfer, and can be required for some graduate schools and employers who are considering IUP graduates.
In a statement, IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll called the process “incredibly rigorous and demanding” but called the Middle States assessment the “Gold Standard for colleges and universities” and that it provides validation of a school’s commitment to excellence. He added the team gave IUP high marks in the areas of self-study, active community engagement, the university’s model of shared governance in planning and implementing its strategic plan, leadership transitions and organizational restructuring.
