The IUP cheerleaders have been placed on stayed removal of university recognition for one year after a hazing investigation.
The university received a report in May of this year that between the Fall of 2023 and Spring of 2025 that the they violated hazing and other policies. According to the Campus Hazing Transparency Report released earlier this month, IUP’s cheerleaders were forcing the new members to clean up after social events, require participation in non-customary events that included alcohol, requiring underage members to assist in purchasing kegs of beer and collected money from underage members. The team also engaged in unsafe practices during routine training dates.
Executive Director of Communications and Media Relations Michelle Fryling said the university took the allegations very seriously when they were received.
The stayed removal includes restricted team activities and educational and developmental requirements that need to be met. After the one-year suspension ends in May of 2026, the cheerleaders will be on probation for four years.
