After taking two out of three games from Toronto, one of baseball’s best teams, the Pirates welcome the team with the worst record in baseball, the Colorado Rockies, to PNC Park tonight for the first of three games, looking for a little revenge after losing two out of three games three weeks ago in Denver.
Braxton Ashcraft (3-2, 3.02 ERA), gets the start for the Bucs against the Rockies’ Antonio Senzatela (4-14, 7.00 ERA).
The Pirates have not announced the roster move that will allow them to add Bubba Chandler to the roster, but he is expected to be in uniform and may see action in relief tonight as Ashcraft will go no more than five innings.
95-year-old Vernon “The Deacon” Law and 78-year-old Al “Scoops” Oliver were both on hand at PNC Park yesterday for their induction into the Pirates Hall of Fame, along with the great granddaughters of Kiki Cuyler, the former star outfielder, who entered the Hall posthumously. Cuyler was a member of the 1925 world champion Pirates, Law of the 1960 champs, and Oliver of the ’71 champs.
Other Pirates Hall of Famers present at the ceremony included Steve Blass, Elroy Face, and Jim Leyland.
Law, Oliver, and Cuyler will be honored in pregame ceremonies before tomorrow’s game against the Rockies.
