IUP will hold a ceremony later this morning to mark anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks.
On this day 24 years ago, terrorists hijacked planes that crashed into the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon building in Washington, DC, and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Continuing a tradition that started the year after the attacks, the university will hold a remembrance ceremony in the Oak Grove in front of the 9-11 memorial between Stapleton Library and Sutton Hall. Speakers for the ceremony will include IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll and retired US Army Brigadier General Robin Paul Swann, a 1978 graduate of IUP. Music will be provided the IUP wind ensemble.
The ceremony will also pay tribute to three IUP alumni who died in the attack on the World Trade Center: William Moskal from the class of 1979, 1980 Graduate Donald Jones and William Sugra, a 1993 graduate.
The ceremony will start at 11:10, which is in conjunction with the university’s common hour. The event is open to the public.
