A member of the Homer-Center School Board is under fire after a remark that some claimed was connected to the death of the founder of Turning Point USA.
Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was shot and killed at an outdoor event in Orem, Utah. Homer-Center Board Member Misty Hunt posted a message on her personal social media page that read “one down, hundreds to go”, which many believe was in celebration of Kirk’s death. Some on social media have called for her removal from the school board.
Hunt said that the post was a misunderstanding, saying she had not heard the news of Kirk’s death at that time, and she was trying to post a video about milk weed pods that were flying out of a cubby in her truck.
She claimed that some technical difficulties prevented the video from accompanying the text. The post with the video remains on her page, and in a separate post, she apologized for the misinterpretation saying that it was never meant to be connected to yesterday’s incident.
Last night, Superintendent Ralph Cecere, Jr. released a statement on the district’s Facebook page saying they were aware of the statement, and said the post was “the sole responsibility of the individual board member and does not represent the views and opinions” of the board, and they would try to understand the intentions.
