The latest drought map released by the National Integrated Drought Information System shows almost 35 percent of Indiana County is now affected by “moderate drought.” That’s up from 7.2 percent in last week’s report. 30,862 Indiana County residents are now living in drought conditions, while the rest of the county remains “abnormally dry.”
Neighboring Jefferson County has jumped from 20 percent to 100 percent in moderate drought, while Clearfield County remains at about 65 percent. The northeast corner of Armstrong County, about 18 percent of the county, is in moderate drought.
All or portions of seventeen Pennsylvania counties, all in the western half of the state, now have drought within their borders.
