Wednesday night, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and Homer City Redevelopment held a public hearing to address the public’s concerns about the proposed air quality treatment plan for the proposed natural gas-fired power plant in Center Township.
Members of the community were able to have a back-and-forth style discussion with representatives from both organizations. That was follow by a testimony session, during which people expressed their displeasure with the project, with great concern about what specific contaminants would be monitored, how the data gathered would be reported back to the public, and how these chemicals would affect the health of the elderly and the very young.
CEO of Homer City Redevelopment Corey Hessen said that they will do everything they can to ensure that they are well within regulations.
Another concern that was raised was how jobs would be filled. President of the Building Trades Sean Steffey said that there are plenty of Pennsylvanians willing and ready to work.
No future public hearing or comment sessions are planned as of this time.
