Indiana School District has announced that some of their student teachers are going through some extra protocols to make sure that they and the students they interact with stay safe.
According to a letter to district parents, Superintendent Michael Vuckovich said that the board last night looked at the latest figures from the Departments of Health and Education, and like other districts in the county, decided to continue operations that are in place, but when it comes to student teachers, there will be some changes.
The data received by the board demonstrated to them that the increase in community transmission was due to IUP students returning to campus. To that end, the district administration has placed a two-week moratorium on all pre-student teachers in the district. The administration also met with student teachers currently active to discuss their responsibilities in maintaining a safe environment for the students. The student teachers will also be subjected to more stringent health screenings every day before entering the school buildings.
Vuckovich said in the letter that if IUP’s numbers continue to rise, they may extend the moratorium to include the student teachers as well. He added that the administration has been in contact with IUP officials during this process.
