There has been little change reported in the drought status for Indiana County and across the state.
According to stats earlier this week from the National Integrated Drought Information System, two-thirds of Indiana County remains under a “moderate drought”, while the rest of the county, primarily in the west and southwest portions, are listed as “abnormally dry”. In Indiana County, the PA American Water Company Twolick Filter Plant weather station recorded .49 inches of rain for the month of September, but the average rainfall for the month is 3.68 to 4.18 inches. Many of the municipal authorities have asked their customers to voluntarily cut back water usage in an attempt to conserve resources.
Currently, 36 Pennsylvania Counties are in “Moderate drought” status. Portions of Beaver, Washington and Greene Counties near the borders with Ohio and West Virginia are in an “extreme drought” category.
