Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi elevated Mason Heintschel from third string to first string yesterday, and the true freshman, still only 18 years old, led the Panthers to a 48-7 win over Boston College.
Heintschel completed 30 of 41 passes for 323 yards and four touchdowns as Pitt amassed 503 yards of total offense. Kenny Johnson caught nine passes and scored a touchdown, and Justin Holmes, Deuce Spann, and Zion Fowler-El also caught scoring passes. With All-American running back Desmond Reid sidelined by injury for a second straight game, Juelz Goff and Ja’Kyrian Turner both ran for scores.
Pitt visits number 18 Florida State next Saturday.
