On Thursday, the company behind the purchase of the former WyoTech facility in Burrell Township announced the relaunch of the trade school is scheduled for 2021.
New Village Initiative, based out of Orlando, Florida, purchased the property for $11.5 million. NVI CEO Gary J. Beeman said that the company is not only re-opening the technical school, but they are also looking at the complex as a location for their Advanced Materials Group which will create some additional manufacturing jobs.
The acquisition took two years to complete, and Beeman said that he got to know the Blairsville community during that time.
The re-launched school is expected to be a financial boon for the area as 400 students are expected to return to campus, along with 20-30 “well paying jobs.” Burrell Township Supervisor Dan Shacreaw said having more people in the area will help the township financially.
While a firm date has not been announced as of yet, NVI is looking to reopen the school by the middle of next year.
