The Cambria Heights Highlanders did what champions do on Friday night and found a way to come back to beat Conemaugh Township (4-4) after trailing the Indians, 20-14, at halftime. Cambria Heights, two-time defending District 6 champions, rallied in the second half and defeated the host team, 34-26, to improve to 7-1 in Heritage Conference action and stay a game behind front-runner Marion Center.
Marion Center took out Purchase Line, 28-12, to stay undefeated through Week 8. The Red Dragons fell to 2-6. The Stingers hold the No. 2 ranking in District 6 AA, 90 points behind Bishop McCort and 10 points ahead of Richland.
River Valley (7-1) also stayed a game back of Marion Center with a 46-14 trouncing of winless Conemaugh Valley. The Panthers hold the fifth spot in District 6 AA. The game was already 46-0 at halftime. Jeff Cribbs had the recap on Cat Country 106.3 FM and Renda Digital TV.
Homer-Center (6-2) shut out West Shamokin, 30-0, to stay two games back in the conference standings and ranked third in District 6 A, 30 points behind Juniata Valley. West Shamokin’s conference losing streak reached 20 games. Mark Bertig had the recap on WCCS and Renda Digital TV.
In another shutout, United Valley handled Portage, 31-0, to improve to 5-3. The Lions currently hold the eighth spot in the District 6 AA rankings. Portage fell to 2-6.
A pair of 3-4 teams will match up on Saturday night when Northern Cambria visits Penns Manor at 7 p.m.
