After taking the day off for Columbus Day, Indiana County’s Court of Common Pleas is back in session today with a plea court hearing involving a man who tried to flee police.
Court documents show that today’s plea hearing is for 31-year-old Nicholas Empfield of Home, who faces charges of aggravated assault by vehicle, fleeing or eluding, resisting arrest, simple assault, fraudulent title registration and four summary driving counts related to an incident on April 9th. Police said that Empfield was seen riding his motorcycle with 40-year-old Amanda Baker and the two were trying to elude pursuit with officers in the area of Blue Spruce Road north of 7th Street. During the chase, Empfield missed a turn and lost control of the bike. Both he and Baker were hurt.
Also going before the court of common pleas today is 36-year-old Brendan Marody of Blairsville. He faces four counts of indecent assault of someone under 13, three counts of statutory sexual assault, two counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and single counts of rape, aggravated indecent assault and aggravated indecent assault of a child. Those charges were connected to an investigation that went back to May 1st of 2023. The hearing today concerns a motion concerning bail.
