Ronald Lynn Mabon, 68, of Home, passed away Monday, Oct. 20, 2025 at Indiana
Regional Medical Center.
A son of the late Richard E. and Kathleen (Weiss) Mabon, he was born Sept. 9,
1957, in Indiana.
Ron had worked at his family’s gas station, Mabon’s Sterling Service, in Indiana
prior to opening his own business, Mabon’s Country Store/Mabon’s Yarn Express.
He continued his love of art and design by taking a job at The Roadster Factory
designing their publications and being published himself in Road and Track
magazine. After that he started his employment at Indiana University of
Pennsylvania. Ron was an excellent graphic designer and after 26 years, he retired
from IUP, where he was the Director of Design and Marketing. He was also a
representative/liaison with IUP and the Indiana County Technology Center. Ron
was an active participant of his children’s activities by being an assistant cub
master with Pack 145. He shared his oldest son’s love of trains by being a member
of the Central Indiana Model Railroad Club. The love for the town of Indiana was
evident by his participation in the Indiana County Tourist Bureau. Among his
many attributes, Ron will be most remembered as a great family man.
He is survived by his wife, Kristen (Hess) Mabon, of Home. The couple wed on
July 11, 1981 on a day that has been described as the hottest day of the year.
Married for 44 years he perfected the art of trying to reign her in with one hand
while giving her the world with his other. He is also survived by three sons:
Daniel Mabon, of Home; David Mabon and wife Jean, of DuBois; Jon Mabon, of
Hollidaysburg; five grandchildren: Inara, Malcolm, Miranda, Conall, Kendrick;
and numerous nieces and nephews. The love for his children, grandchildren, and
family was endless. His wittiness and smiles were infectious and seeing the joy in
those around him was his greatest happiness.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judith Ann Parsley
and a brother, Dennis Richard Mabon. After the passing of his brother, Denny, Ron
lovingly cared for his mother until her passing on September 7th , 2025 at the age of
99.
Family and friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025 with
additional visitation being held from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3
p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025 at Robinson-Lytle-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 36 N 7th
Street, Indiana with Pastor Lois Jackson officiating. Interment will be in Oakland
Cemetery.
