Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers says they have to start scoring touchdowns instead of field goals on their offensive possessions. Four times against the Packers on Sunday, they settled for Chris Bosworth field goals, thanks to a combination of penalties and negative yardage plays.
Rodgers says the problem is not with offense coordinator Arthur Smith’s play-calling. It’s the execution of those plays that is costing them.
Rodgers says the Steelers played far too much behind the sticks on Sunday.
After reports on Monday that the Steelers would sign veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdez-Scantling, he still is not in Pittsburgh, apparently because he wants to be added to the active roster right away, not to the practice squad.
Rodgers played with Valdez-Scantling for four years in Green Bay. He says he’d be a great addition, but he understands the holdup in signing him.
At practice yesterday, tight end Pat Freiermuth and center Zach Frazier sat out along with guard Isaac Seumalo. Freiermuth has an undisclosed injury. Frazier continues to have a sore calf muscle, and Seumalo has a pectoral muscle injury. Cornerback Corey Trice Jr. practiced yesterday for the first time since being injured in training camp. He remains on injured reserve.
The Steelers beefed up their practice squad yesterday, signing former Commanders safety Darrick Forest, former Eagles guard/tackle Jack Driscoll, and receiver John Rhys Plumlee, who was in Steelers training camp last year.
The Ravens visit the Dolphins in Miami tonight, kicking off Week Nine of the NFL season. Lamar Jackson is expected to return for the Ravens after missing the last three games with a hamstring injury.
