The Pitt Panthers won their fifth straight game, 35-20 over Stanford, overcoming four turnovers and their cross-country airplane ride to California.
Pitt improved to 7-2 (5-1 in the ACC) as freshman quarterback Mason Heintschel threw three touchdown passes. Heintschel completed 23 of 38 passes for 304 yards, but he also threw two red-zone interceptions and lost two fumbles. Pitt committed those four turnovers, but created three of their own, all interceptions, by Javon McIntyre, Kyle Louis, and Shawn Lee, who stepped in front of a pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown. The Panthers’ defense also sacked Stanford quarterbacks five times.
Pitt will be off next week and will close the season with three tough games, at home against 12th-ranked Notre Dame on November 15th, at 8th-ranked Georgia Tech on November 22nd, and at home against 10th-ranked Miami on November 29th.
