Indiana Borough Council will meet tonight to review the results of a recently completed pedestrian safety study conducted by PennDOT.
The report focuses on potential risks and safety concerns along Philadelphia Street — the site of two recent fatal accidents. In March, two pedestrians were struck and killed by a truck while crossing the street. Another crash last month also claimed two lives.
In an interview on Indiana in the Morning, Borough Manager Nicole Sipos said she was surprised by some of the findings in the study, particularly the high number of people who cross Philadelphia Street each day.
The report includes a variety of data, covering statistics from March of this year till October, and outlines possible safety improvements, though any final decisions will rest with council.
Sipos added that even with the study complete, efforts to improve pedestrian safety in the borough will continue.
Tonight’s meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the George E. Hood Municipal Building. The public is invited to attend, and the session will also be streamed live on our Facebook page.
