Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate in September did go up slightly, but they remained under the federal rate for the 29th month in a row.
The rate went up by one tenth of a percentage point in August to enter September at 4.1%. The federal unemployment rate showed a similar increase, going up to 4.4%. Pennsylvania’s civilian labor force, which is the estimated number of residents working or looking for work, was up 1,000 over the month to 6,531,000 in September. Employment declined 6,000 from August while unemployment rose 7,000.
Pennsylvania’s total nonfarm jobs were up 5,800 over the month to 6,252,900 in September, the 17th consecutive month at a record high. Jobs increased from August in six of the 11 industry super sectors. The largest volume movement was in education & health services, up 2,500 over the month to a record high.
