On Friday, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shaprio signed an emergency declaration concerning the storms expected to hit the state starting tonight.
The proclamation will allow resources to be available to prepare for and support response efforts by allowing the Commonwealth to quickly draw down funding and provide state agencies with resources to assist counties and municipalities with response efforts. In a statement, Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency director Randy Padfield said this “gives PEMA the flexibility to pre-position resources, streamline coordination, and respond quickly if conditions deteriorate this weekend.”
Motorists are advised not to travel during this storm. While the disaster declaration does not explicitly prohibit travel, motorists should be aware of local-level road restrictions that may be in place. If travel is necessary, people are advised to check road conditions by logging on to 511pa.com or the 511 PA App, or to call 511 before leaving.
