United’s boys and Indiana’s girls joined the Penns Manor girls as area teams advancing to the second round of the state basketball playoffs on Saturday.

In the girls 5A bracket, Indiana rolled to an upset win over Erie Cathedral Prep. Pat Dougherty has the recap.
In other PIAA playoff action on Saturday, River Valley’s boys were tied with powerful Trinity in Cumberland County in Class 3A, but the hosts scored 29 points in the second quarter and added 21 more in the third to sprint away from the Panthers. Trinity won the game, 78-42, ending River Valley’s season with a record of 18-9.
In boys 2A, Northern Cambria never had much chance against Jeannette, losing to the Jayhawks in the PIAA playoffs for the second year in a row, 72-38. The Colts finish the year at 17-9.
