Neshannock’s girls had been dominant in playoff basketball, winning their previous four games by 60, 49, 9, and 54 points. But they ran into a determined Penns Manor Comets team last night in the second round of the girls Double-A bracket.
Todd Marino recaps the second-round playoff game at Armstrong High School.
Comets coach Jason Miloser says his team played as hard as they could.
Miloser says Clara Henry, who fought the much taller Lancers all night long in the post, showed her toughness, as did all of the Comets.
Miloser says he can’t wait to get back to work with this young group in the offseason.
Tonight, it’s boys Double-A second round action as undefeated United mixes it up with Clarion, the number two team out of District 9. The Bobcats got by Muncy, 46-42, in the first round while the Heritage Conference and District 6 champion Lions outmuscled Neshannock, 54-36.
United coach Matt Rodkey says Clarion pays a similar style to his team’s game.
Rodkey expects Clarion to play tight one-on-one defense against his up-tempo Lions.
You will be able to watch tonight’s action on Renda Digital TV. The airtime is 6:15 from Armstrong High School.
On WDAD tonight, the Indiana girls take on a familiar foe in the second round of the 5A tournament. Fresh off their 46-34 upset of District 10 champion Cathedral Prep in Erie, Indiana travels to Fox Chapel to meet Baldwin, a team to which they lost, 41-37, two weeks ago in the WPIAL consolation round. Indiana will have to contain Baldwin star Linsey Bernotas, who scored 15 against the Indians in the first game. Meanwhile, Julia Antonacci scored 17 for Indiana and Addy Hutton 16. Coach Michael Franciscus will look for that kind of production and a little more from the rest of the girls to get past the Highlanders.
Both teams are 22-5. Baldwin is coming off a 67-60 win over Middletown. Pat Dougherty has the call of tonight’s game on WDAD beginning at 6:30.
