State police have released an update on the impact Homer City Redevelopment has had on its resources.
Lt. Christopher Terrana with the Troop A Barracks said that the public has taken an interest in the natural gas-fueled power plant project at the former Homer City Generating site, and on the impact it has had in the area. He said that statistically speaking, there has been no impact on operations at the barracks and patrol assignments have remained unchanged from years past. According to stats from 2024, there were 180 crashes spread across Homer City borough and Center, Black Lick and Burrell Townships. In 2025, that number increased by only six. In the first two months of this year, only 25 crashes have been reported.
There have been 1274 traffic citations in 2024, but that number went down to 907 in 2025 and so far in 2026, there are 76 tickets of record. A minor increase was reported in the number of DUI arrests, going up from 59 to 61, and 18 arrests so far in 2026. There were also 349 criminal incidents in 2024, but in 2025 the number went up to 395. 40 incidents have been reported in the area this year so far.
Terrana said that the troopers routinely meet with officials with Homer City Redevelopment and Kiewit to “assess the expansion of the project’s workforce and act to avoid any disruptions to daily life.”
