Indiana Borough Police accused an Indiana man of making terroristic threats at the St. Patrick’s Day parade on Saturday.
Police said that at 11:04 AM during the annual parade, officers were notified by witnesses that a man told them he was going to “shoot up the parade” as he walked past them. One of the witnesses was able to point him out in the crowd on the North sidewalk in the 600 block of Philadelphia Street. The man, later identified as 18-year-old Chase Joshua Mansfield, was detained and immediately arrested. He did not have a weapon in his possession.
In a statement, Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl said that the incident “exposes a danger that is possible at all large gatherings and public events. It also highlights the importance of community members immediately reporting suspicious people and activity to police.”
Mansfield was arraigned in front of District Judge Susanne Steffee and is currently in Indiana County Jail as he failed to post $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for March 24th at 11:00 AM.
Indiana Borough Police were assisted by the Indiana County District Attorney’s Office through the investigation.
