An Indiana County Teacher and Student were awarded new cars at Monday night’s Excellence in Education ceremonies at the KCAC.
This marked the fourth year for the annual awards program put on by the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce. This year’s recipient for Teacher of the Year was Joe Perkovich of Indiana Area School District. He was surprised to receive the award.
The student of the year was Brooke Cunningham of Penns Manor. She was almost speechless after receiving the award.
Each received a new car from Colonial Motor Mart, with taxes, plates and the first year of insurance also covered thanks to the program’s sponsors.
The guest speaker this year was Nick Ruffner, Strategic Public Affairs and Communications Leader with Sheetz and a graduate of Marion Center and IUP. He said that his talk focused on students being at the start of their own journey.
The United Way of Indiana County also handed out philanthropy awards. The teacher recipient was Tiffany DeStefano from Purchase Line and the student recipient was Sophia Overdorff of United.
