About 37 percent of Indiana County’s voters turned in a ballot either by mail or at the polls on Tuesday for the 2021 primary election.
One of the hotly contested local races was the race for the County Court of Common Pleas vacancy. Assistant District Attorney Gina Force won the Republican nomination with 6,396 votes cast in the election, which is roughly 57.26 percent of the Republican votes. Force was grateful for the support.
Former District Attorney Patrick Dougherty won the Democrat party’s nomination , with 3,203 votes, roughly 51 percent of all Democrat votes cast. Dougherty said that while he appreciated the nomination by the Democrat party, he knows he has a lot of work ahead of him.
One other hotly contested race was the Indiana School Board race, with Tom Harley and Julia Trimarchi-Cuccaro each receiving a nomination from both parties. Republicans also nominated Jim Shaffer and Doug Steve for the November election, and joining them on the ballot are Barbara Barker and Sue Reig.
One other contested race is very close at this time, and that is the Democrat nomination for Center Township Supervisors. When all 69 precincts reported in, incumbent Dave “Butch” Smyers had 282 votes, while Paul Colgan had 274 votes. No one ran on the Republican ticket for that race.
