The proceedings were put on by Sheriff Bob Fyock who asked those who gathered to remember those who sacrificed their lives to protect their communities.
The guest speaker for this year was retired officer Charles Thomas with the City of McKeesport Police Department, who told the story of Officer Sean Sluganski, one of his fellow officers, who was killed in February of 2023 while responding to a mental health crisis. He said that Sluganski was the perfect officer for the force.
The ceremony also honored five people who died in the line of duty over the last 12 months. They were Detective Sgt. Cody Becker and Detectives Isaiah Emenheiser and Mark Baker from Northern York County, Philadelphia Police Officer Andy Chan, and State Police Corporal Timothy J. O’Connor.
