Tuesday night, Indiana Borough Council heard an update on safety upgrades for the Philadelphia Street corridor.
Police had reported that the new “No Turn on Red” signs have gone up but are covered for the time being. They will be unveiled around the same time that the all-red stop systems are put in place on the traffic lights. Lt. Eric Slovinsky said that will be in the next few months, but the rollout will depend on how the red-light system is rolled out.
Police will utilize social media, message boards and other means to inform the public on the rollout of the new traffic procedures.
In other business, the council approved the paving contract for the 2026 year. The contract went to Quaker Sales for $206,996.50. Paving this year will include:
- Burns Avenue between 7th and 8th Streets
- Standard Avenue from 5th to Carpenter
- Burns Avenue from 6th to Coulter
- Taylor Avenue from Clark to Nixon
- Carpenter Avenue from Shryock to the dead end
- First street from Water to the dead end
The borough also approved the SALDO and zoning plan for Donna’s Diner, which is slated to be moved from Sharon to next to Danny’s Tacos in the 500 Block of Philadelphia Street over the next few months.
