At the Region 7 Senior Legion Tournament at Claysburg-Kimmel, Homer City Post 493 lost for the first time yesterday, a seventh-inning rally coming up short and the Bearcats falling to Phillipsburg, 6-5.
Phillipsburg scored three in the third inning to break a 1-1 tie, then after Homer City pulled to within one with runs in the third and fifth, the Phils scored two more in the sixth to make it 6-3. Homer City pushed across two more runs in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t complete the comeback.
A day after hitting a walk-off home run for the Bearcats, Connor James stayed hot, going 3-for-5 with a double and a triple and driving in all five of Post 493’s runs. Shane McHugh also doubled for Homer City.
Post 493 will play in the losers bracket against St. Michael at 12:40 this afternoon.
St. Michael eliminated Bushy Run 4-2. Lower Burrell knocked out Bedford, 6-4.
Latrobe pummeled Claysburg 11-0 and will play Phillipsburg tonight at 6:45.
After the Homer City/St. Michael game at 12:40 this afternoon, Lower Burrell will take on Claysburg at 3:40.
