The Steelers report to training camp on Tuesday at Saint Vincent, and while much of the focus in recent weeks has been the still-unsigned third-round draft pick, quarterback Drew Allar, a player who will be much more impactful this season is the major storyline. Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is entering his fourth year and looking for a contract extension. He’s under contract now, so he is expected to report to camp, but likely will not be practicing much while negotiations are going on. Porter has been working out with his defensive backfield mates but could stage a “hold-in” in camp while waiting for a new deal.
Allar still has not signed, but probably will before the weekend is up. Number-one overall draft choice Fernando Mendoza yesterday signed a four-year, $57.3 million deal with the Raiders, leaving the Rams’ Ty Simpson as the last unsigned first-round draft pick this year.
The first workout of Steelers training camp is Wednesday at 11:20 AM. The parking lots at Saint Vincent will open at 8:15 and the gates at 8:30. Admission for fans is free, but you must have a mobile ticket, which you can get at steelers.com.
The first preseason game is August 13th against Green Bay at Acrisure Stadium.
