Starting today and going through the end of the week, State Police in Troop A will take part in the “Six-State Trooper Project”, and their focus will be on Pennsylvania’s Move Over Law.
Troopers will be looking out for those who don’t adhere to the law, which requires drivers to move over when approaching an emergency response area by passing in a lane not adjacent to the emergency area if possible. If it is not possible or safe to do that, motorists must decrease their speed to 20 miles an hour under the posted speed limit. State troopers are expected to adopt a “zero tolerance” policy towards those who violate this law
Troopers will also be on the lookout for distracted, intoxicated and aggressive drivers during this time period, including those who text while driving, drive carelessly and recklessly, and others.
The Six-State Trooper Project is a collaboration between state police and highway patrol forces in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky and West Virginia with the goal of enhancing highway safety.
