In an effort to detect and deter criminal activity, troopers of the Pennsylvania State Police – Troop A announced this morning that Domestic Security Checks will continue to take place in Indiana and neighboring counties.
In a news release, troopers say that Domestic Security Checks involve officers checking the outer areas of facilities to remain alert to indicators of criminal activity, suspicious persons, and/or unauthorized vehicles. These checks are conducted each shift to include overnight and weekends.
A total of 7,417 checks were conducted so far this across Cambria, Indiana, Somerset and Westmoreland Counties, and they will continue throughout the remainder of the year with checks occurring at schools, both public and private, places of worship, banks, shopping centers, and critical infrastructure sites.
At schools, troopers are encouraged to greet students and staff, be present during arrival and dismissal times as well as after-school events, and to conduct walk-throughs while classes are in-session. In addition, troopers are encouraged to have lunch with students in an initiative called the Trooper-School Lunch Program.
School administrators, pastors and leaders inside places of worship, and business owners who would like to invite troopers for tours of their facilities should contact their local state police barracks.
