One area school district has gone to virtual learning for today and tomorrow.
West Shamokin School District in Rural Valley announced that it will use two virtual learning days to round out its week of classes at the Junior-Senior High School. Students are being asked to log into their Canvas accounts with their chromebooks to access their school work over the next two days, and teachers will be online to help out. All sport activities will continue as planned following safety protocols. Following a deep cleaning of the school, the school will reopen for normal activity on September 7th. It has been reported that the district has eight cases of Covid at the Junior-Senior High.
Some districts in Indiana County are reporting some new cases this morning.
- Indiana has reported a new probable positive case of Covid-19 in a student at Ben Franklin Elementary. After talking with the school nurse and the department of health, it was determined the entire class needed to be quarantined. The district has two active cases, with the other being in an Eisenhower student attending class at the Junior High School.
- River Valley School District confirmed one student at Blairsville Elementary and two students at River Valley Middle School have confirmed covid-19 cases.
- Marion Center School District is reporting four positive cases at the high school, one at McCreery and two at Rayne. This has resulted in the quarantining of six high schoolers, two elementary students at McCreery elementary and 15 others at Rayne Elementary.
The other districts have not reported new cases of Covid-19 on their websites. These new cases come as the districts are notifying parents of the mask orders from the PA Department of Health earlier this week, which will go into effect on September 7th, requiring all students in K-12 schools, early learning programs and child care centers, along with teachers and staff to wear masks to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and its variants.
