Already ranked number four in the nation, the IUP women’s basketball team is the preseason number one team in the PSAC West in the annual conference coaches poll. Coach Craig Carey’s team is coming off a historic season in which they made it all the way to the national championship game.
Led by returning starters Teresa Maggio, Marin Miller, and Belle Bosch, the Crimson Hawks lead Gannon, Edinboro, Cal, Lock Haven Clarion, UPJ, Slippery Rock and Seton Hill.
East Stroudsburg is number one in the East, ahead of Kutztown, Millersville, Bloomsburg, West Chester, Shepherd, Shippensburg, and Mansfield.
Carey says his returning players have set the tone for the newcomers.
Carey says IUP fans will see a different type of Crimson Hawks team this season.
The coach says the team is focused on this year, not on their past.
Carey also welcomes back rugged forwards Lily Jordan and Madison Zavasky. IUP will also call on 6-foot Boston U. transfer Sisi Bentley, 6-3 Furman transfer Channing Warren, 6-2 Elon transfer Aly Wadkovsky, 5-11 Millersville transfer Rhyan Mitchell, and 5-10 Weber State transfer Maya Davis, along with highly-touted New Zealander Imogen Veal, a 6-4 freshman.
