Before the Duquesne Dukes tipped off against Purdue-Fort Wayne last night, the team paid tribute to the long-time broadcaster with ceremonies at mid-court, and a highlight reel of Goss’ most famous calls on the Duquesne Basketball network. In an interview on Indiana in the Morning, Ray’s son David talked about the ceremony and said it was a great tribute.
He added that his father would have been humbled by the affection shown for him last night.
Goss had been the play-by-play voice for the Dukes for 58 seasons, making him the longest-tenured announcer in NCAA. Goss was also a part of WDAD in the 1950s, eventually becoming the General Manager before co-founding WIRD, which later became WCCS, in 1986. He also was the longtime voice of the Indiana County Fair. He would be inducted into the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2023. Goss passed away on April 28th of this year at the age of 89.
