On Monday night, the Indiana School Board authorized the district to enter into a class-action lawsuit against a popular e-cigarette manufacturer.
The lawsuit agreement is with two law groups to enter the nationwide, multi-district lawsuit against Juul Labs, with the district seeking money related to district costs that are connected with the use of vaping products. Superintendent Michael Vuckovich talked about the three things that would be done with any money received from the lawsuit.
Vuckovich added that they want to be able to help kids make the right call concerning e-cigarettes.
In other business, the board authorized the administration to open up dual enrollment from IUP to 10th Graders and to send a survey to families to gauge their interest in being contacted for the program. The board also approved the creation of a new club called “Everyone!”, which is an awareness club focusing on mental health, abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and similar topics. The club will raise money for community non-profits and introduce healthy coping mechanisms into club activities.
