During the IUP football game today, the school will celebrate the 100th anniversary of it’s Marching Band, appropriately nicknamed “The Legend”.
Over 900 Alumni and friends are expected to be a part of the celebration, which got underway yesterday. The celebration was to have originally taken part in 2021, but was postponed one year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
IUP Marching Band Director Zack Cheever says that the celebration will culminate with a special performance at halftime of today’s game with current and former members of “The Legend” taking the field.
The game begins at 2:00 today at Frank Cignetti Field, and admission to the game will be free at Halftime to allow everyone to enjoy the halftime show. The alumni members will also take part in the post-game show, which will include a performance of “Amazing Grace”. Another highlight of the day is a special alumni dinner and program which will feature a screening of the documentary “Sustaining Grace”, which tells the story of IUP’s history with the hymn created by IUP Alumni Mary Megna and Jarell Verbecken. If you want your own copy of the film, it is a $30 suggested donation and you can find out more at marymegnalifecoach.com
