Earlier today, MLB Pipeline unveiled its 2023 top catching prospects, and two Pirates prospects cracked the list.
Switch-hitting utility player Endy Rodriguez was ranked as the sixth best catching prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. Last year, he slashed .323/.407/.997 with 25 home runs and 95 RBIs in 125 games between High A, Double A and Triple A.
Currently ranked as the sixth-best prospect in the Pirates organization, Rodriguez is projected to crack the MLB roster at some point this season.
Also cracking the list is Pirates top prospect Henry Davis, who follows in at No. 7.
The former No. 1 overall pick out of Louisville spent most of last season rehabbing an injury, but collected a .264 batting average in 59 games.
Davis and Rodriguez also join last year’s first-round pick infielder Termarr Johnson and pitcher Luis Ortiz on Baseball America’s Top 100 prospects list.
Rodriguez ranks the highest among the four at No. 23. Johnson follows at No. 49, then Davis and Ortiz at Nos. 73 and 74, respectively.
Not making the list is No. 3 prospect pitcher Quinn Priester, No. 4 prospect infielder Liover Peguero, and No. 5 prospect infielder Nick Gonzales. All of which are expected to make the Pirates roster this season.
