GOLF
IUP Men’s golf coach Dan Braun yesterday announced the addition of two recruits. Aidan LeBlanc of Beverly, Massachusetts, and Jon Vinge of Calgary, Alberta, Canada have joined the four-time defending PSAC champion Crimson Hawks golf team
BASEBALL
IUP baseball players Harrison Pontoli and Markus Cestra have been named to the 2023 preseason National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-Atlantic Region Team, both as honorable mention selections. Cestra is a senior shortstop/second baseman who led IUP in batting average (.369) and broke the school’s all-time record for doubles in a season, with 22. He also led the Crimson Hawks in OPS, at-bats, hits, triples, and slugging percentage.
Pontoli is a junior who also plays both shortstop and second base. He led IUP in home runs, with six, and RBIs, with 42 last season. He also led in runs, triples, and stolen bases.
IUP opens its season February 10th at UNC Pembroke.
SOFTBALL
IUP Softball has been picked to finish fifth in the PSAC West in the preseason coaches poll. Mercyhurst was chosen first, followed by Seton Hill, Cal U, and Gannon. IUP finished fifth in the West last year.
FOOTBALL
A football note from the PSAC…Seton Hill linebacker Jaylen McDuffie has declared for the NFL Draft. He was a Don Hansen Division Two All-American and made the D2Football.com Elite 100 First team. He was also the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year and was a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award as the nation’s top Division two defensive back.
