There is another new scam alert today, this one issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, which says the latest effort to separate you from your money is an attempt to trick you into exposing your sensitive data and personal information. It’s a recurring scam that is circulating again, involving phony letters purporting to be from the department and threatening wage garnishment and the seizure of property and assets unless the recipient calls a phone number to satisfy a lien. The letters often contain the phrase “Final Demand for Payment”.
The Revenue Department advises that if you are concerned about a potentially fraudulent notice, visit their website for verified contact information (https://www.revenue.pa.gov/GetAssistance/Pages/Verifying-Contact.aspx#:~:text=For%20Personal%20Income%20Tax%20inquiries,(717)%20787%2D8327).
If you believe you are a victim of tax fraud or tax-related identity theft, contact the department’s Bureau of Fraud Detection and Analysis by email or phone (Ra-rvpadorfraud@pa.gov or call 717-772-9297).
