State police have reported three accidents, all of them Friday afternoon, and fortunately no one was injured in any of them.
The first accident was on College Lodge Road in White Township at a few minutes before one o’clock. A pickup operated by 51-year-old Russell Crane of Indiana struck the mirror of a pickup driven by 63-year-old Michael Duchon of Indiana.
The second crash was at 2:55 PM on Oakland Avenue at the intersection with a shopping plaza. There had been an earlier accident that was being investigated and a state trooper was directing traffic. He stopped vehicles coming out of the plaza and turned his back to direct traffic on the roadway but a car pulled out from the plaza and made a left turn, colliding with another car. The driver of the car coming out of the plaza told the trooper she was obeying the traffic light and had not seen him on the road directing traffic despite there being multiple police vehicles there with flashing lights. Damage was minor to both cars.
The third crash was on Valley Road in Green Township at 3:17 PM. Police say a 17-year-old girl from Northern Cambria lost control of her vehicle, hitting the guiderail, then crossing the road and traveling up an embankment. The vehicle overturned and ended up on its roof back on the roadway.
ARMSTRONG COUNTY
Two people were injured, one seriously, Friday morning in a collision between a car and a van carrying Amish passengers on Route 85 in Cowanshannock Township, Armstrong County.
State police say 61-year-old Steven Kovach of Rural Valley pulled from White Oak Road onto Route 85, into the path of the large passenger van, which was being driven by 55-year-old Jasper Davidson II of Urichsville, Ohio. The two collided and Kovach suffered serious injuries. He was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters. He was taken by ambulance from the scene and then flown to an unnamed hospital. Davidson suffered minor injuries. None of the nine Amish passengers, who were all from Freeport, Ohio and ranged in age from 44 to less than a year old, were injured.
