Gas prices are trending downward one week away from Independence Day.
Triple-A reports that the national average cost of a gallon of gas is $3.56 a gallon this morning, which is down a penny over the last week and month. The national average last year at this time was $4.89. Pennsylvania’s average is following that trend, going down a penny over the last week to $3.63 a gallon. Last month, Pennsylvania’s average was $3.68, and last year, the average was close to $5 a gallon.
Experts with Triple-A say that oil costs have remained low and has kept gas prices relatively stable over the past few weeks. Demand has also gone down slightly over the last week, while total domestic gas stocks increased by 500,000 barrels.
Indiana County’s average this morning is $3.66. The lowest average in the region is $3.52 in Jefferson County. That’s followed by Clearfield County at $3.61, then Westmoreland County at $3.65. Then Indiana, then Armstrong County at $3.67. The highest average in the region is $3.70 in Cambria County.
Union Township has the lowest county-wide average in the state at $3.46, while the highest average is Susquehana county in the north-east at $3.78.
According to Gasbuddy.com, prices in Indiana County range from $3.59 a gallon in Clymer to $3.69 a gallon in Indiana, Homer City and Blairsville.
