State police have released their statistics from the Independence Day enforcement period.
Across Pennsylvania, troopers investigated 668 total crashes over the five-day stretch, marking an uptick of 19 crashes compared to last year. Three of those crashes were fatal and three people were killed while 194 were injured. There were also 59 alcohol-related crashes, however none of them were fatal. Troopers also made 505 DUI arrests, issued 7,929 speeding citations, 210 child seat citations, 845 seat belt citations, and 14,754 other citations.
In Troop A, which covers most of Indiana and Westmoreland Counties, along with all of Cambria and Somerset Counties, troopers investigated 35 crashes, none of them fatal but three were alcohol related. They also report 11 people were injured. Troopers also made 42 DUI arrests and issued 549 speeding citations, three child seat citations, 54 seat belt citations, and 740 other citations. Additionally, 262 seat belt warnings were given, and 32 self-initiated criminal arrests were reported.
