Indiana County’s unemployment rate went down in the month of June.
The state Department of Labor and Industry reports that Indiana County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate went down two-tenths of a percentage point to 4.3% over the month of June. Over the last calendar year, the unemployment rate has gone down by nearly a whole percentage point.
Comparing Indiana County to the surrounding counties, Westmoreland County is the lowest at 3.5%, followed by Armstrong County at 3.9% and Jefferson at 4.0%. Clearfield was at 4.1%, then Indiana, and finally the highest rate in the region was Cambria’ county at 4.5%. The highest unemployment rate in the state was 5.3% in Forest County, while Chester County’s rate was the lowest at 2.6%
The number of nonfarm jobs in the Indiana County area went down by 600 in June to 27,700. Trade, transportation and utilities; leisure and hospitality; and government each declined by 200 jobs. The other six published industry super sectors went relatively unchanged since May.
